2nd Saturday Mind Meld each month brings featured artists. This month is:
In the loose and loud tradition of The Velvet Underground, garage rock survivors The Cazbats dish out dance hits and B-sides from the watershed rock year of 1966, because somebody has to do it...
Fable Grazer is a free improv collective based in Somerville, MA. A cloud of droney atonal patterns and harsh noise seems to follow them wherever they go. Imagine Pig-Pen on mushrooms.
Formed in the summer of 2012, when founding member Marc Drinkwater began stalking local musicians on Soundcloud, gathering cogs for a human loop station. The schematic soon became obsolete when the cogs rebelled against their engineer, demanding freedom. Marc discovered (to his horror) that he unwittingly assembled a sonic T-1000, as the group would continuously dissolve into puddles and reform into grotesque, unpredictable shapes over the course of jams that often spanned more than an hour.
Fable Grazer has about 6-8 core members (depending on when you read this) and a long list of extended family and special guests, wielding instrumentation that encompasses everything from guitar, synth, trumpet, mandolin and melodica, to radiator (and related plumbing), springs, loose change, broken glass, and pool table (with balls). Core members include Jeff La, Mike McCaw, Will Middlemiss, Bob Moores, Mike Sawicki, Anthony Solari, Rick Stevens, Jess Tepper, Michael Webber, Eric Woods, Chad Worley, Eric Zabriskie, and Eric Zinman.
